Our tribe has recently bought land to form an intentional community outside (more than an hour outside) Redding, CA. I have just gotten a full time job in Redding to bring in some cash flow since we are a bunch of broke hippies living in the woods trying to prepare for next winter and grow as much food as possible. I'm looking to find whatever Rainbow Family there are in Redding and connect with them! If anyone knows anyone, or lives there or near. Please drop me a line.

Wyoming Gathering Green Energy Plea

On May 2, posed information on how to donate green energy (US dollars) to some critical infrastructure needs before the gathering.

As a result of that email, a lot of discussion has been happening between various people
and I wanted to get back to you - but the short answer is we need serious money and it can be donated to http://www.ashevillecommunity.org/hawker/water/ (the website is not up-to-date,
but any funds donated via this paypal link will be used for the 2008 Annual Gathering Equipment purchases). I give you my word on that! I even heard from one of the CALM focalizers, that replacing and updating this equipment is of critical importance to the health and safety
of the gathering.

Now for the long response:

For many years, a couple of amazing brothers have been focalizing filtered drinking water
systems and radio communications for emergency use. Much of this equipment was stored
in a trailer on private property on the east coast. Unfortunately, last year
the trailer was stolen along with the thousands of dollars worth of equipment it contained.

As it takes a while to purchase the necessary equipment, build the water systems and prepare
for the gathering, donations are desperately needed immediately to fund clean
and safe drinking water for the gathering as well as communications equipment for CALM (First Aid).

Also, the people focalizing radio communications and clean water are burned out and
the gathering needs new human energy to learn and enhance what we have. If you're into helping and
don't know how to connect up, email me (kzirk@earthlink.net) and I'll hook you up.

A safe and happy gathering means a gathering with filtered drinking water. No clean water means a lot of people are going to ends up with the shits - don't let that be you.

Please please please, if one thousand gatherers donate $10 each, that's $10,000
and we can start this gathering with our water needs and CALM needs in good shape.
For the victim of a heart attack, this can mean the difference between life and death.

Please pass this information on to all your lists and talk to your friends. I've
included a summarzied accounting of the equipment that was lost in the trailer theft
below.

Here's an update on specifically what was lost:
We lost many of the larger antennas I use for
base stations and the cross band repeaters used to get emergency help
from other outside repeaters (that saved lives in Arizona for
example). We did loose some family radios and family stuff as well as
our back up supplies.

I also lost all the solar panels and batteries that CALM uses for
recharging batteries, CPAK equipment and other medical gear as well
as lot of shovels, rakes and other implements of destruction.

That is basically what happened. We lost about $2000 of filters,
about $300 in pre filters, and perhaps $3000-$5000 in water parts
(hard to come up with a real number on that one). I lost some
housings but not most of them, other than pre-filter housings.
Some of this was custom made parts and some odd ball stuff that was
found and collected over the years that is hard to replace.
I also lost all my connector hose.

At present, there is no central plan to build a Yoga Camp this year. Having written to past focalisers of Yoga Camp, I've learned that many are moving on to other projects, or burned out. Personally, I'd like very much to see a Yoga Camp this coming Gathering. And I think that we need to get together if we want it to happen. How do you feel?

Funds for CALM, Drinking Water and Scouting for Wyoming Gathering

So when going to a gathering, people often donate money to the Magic Hat to cover food and other supplies. This is awesome. However, for some supplies, it's easier for the money to be available before the gathering as needed supplies aren't always available adjacent to our gathering sites.

Warriors of the Rainbow
There was an old lady, from the "Cree" tribe, named "Eyes of Fire", who prophesied that one day, because of the white mans' or Yo-ne-gis' greed, there would come a time, when the fish would die in the streams, the birds would fall from the air, the waters would be blackened, and the trees would no longer be, mankind as we would know it would all but cease to exist.
There would come a time when the "keepers of the legend, stories, culture rituals, and myths, and all the Ancient Tribal Customs" would be needed to restore us to health. They would be mankinds? key to survival, they were the "Warriors of the Rainbow". There would come a day of awakening when all the peoples of all the tribes would form a New World of Justice, Peace, Freedom and recognition of the Great Spirit.

The "Warriors of the Rainbow" would spread these messages and teach all peoples of the Earth or "Elohi". They would teach them how to live the "Way of the Great Spirit". They would tell them of how the world today has turned away from the Great Spirit and that is why our Earth is "Sick".

The "Warriors of the Rainbow" would show the peoples that this "Ancient Being" (the Great Spirit), is full of love and understanding, and teach them how to make the "Earth or Elohi" beautiful again. These Warriors would give the people principles or rules to follow to make their path right with the world. These principles would be those of the Ancient Tribes. The Warriors of the Rainbow would teach the people of the ancient practices of Unity, Love and Understanding. They would teach of Harmony among people in all four comers of the Earth.

Like the Ancient Tribes, they would teach the peoples how to pray to the Great Spirit with love that flows like the beautiful mountain stream, and flows along the path to the ocean of life. Once again, they would be able to feel joy in solitude and in councils. They would be free of petty jealousies and love all mankind as their brothers, regardless of color, race or religion. They would feel happiness enter their hearts, and become as one with the entire human race. Their hearts would be pure and radiate warmth, understanding and respect for all mankind, Nature, and the Great Spirit. They would once again fill their minds, hearts, souls, and deeds with the purest of thoughts. They would seek the beauty of the Master of Life - the Great Spirit! They would find strength and beauty in prayer and the solitudes of life.

Their children would once again be able to run free and enjoy the treasures of Nature and Mother Earth. Free from the fears of toxins and destruction, wrought by the Yo-ne-gi and his practices of greed. The rivers would again run clear, the forests be abundant and beautiful, the animals and birds would be replenished. The powers of the plants and animals would again be respected and conservation of all that is beautiful would become a way of life.

The poor, sick and needy would be cared for by their brothers and sisters of the Earth. These practices would again become a part of their daily lives.

The leaders of the people would be chosen in the old way - not by their political party, or who could speak the loudest, boast the most, or by name calling or mud slinging, but by those whose actions spoke the loudest. Those who demonstrated their love, wisdom, and courage and those who showed that they could and did work for the good of all, would be chosen as the leaders or Chiefs. They would be chosen by their "quality" and not the amount of money they had obtained. Like the thoughtful and devoted "Ancient Chiefs", they would understand the people with love, and see that their young were educated with the love and wisdom of their surroundings. They would show them that miracles can be accomplished to heal this world of its ills, and restore it to health and beauty.

The tasks of these "Warriors of the Rainbow" are many and great. There will be terrifying mountains of ignorance to conquer and they shall find prejudice and hatred. They must be dedicated, unwavering in their strength, and strong of heart. They will find willing hearts and minds that will follow them on this road of returning "Mother Earth" to beauty and plenty - once more.

The day will come, it is not far away. The day that we shall see how we owe our very existence to the people of all tribes that have maintained their culture and heritage. Those that have kept the rituals, stories, legends, and myths alive. It will be with this knowledge, the knowledge that they have preserved, that we shall once again return to "harmony" with Nature, Mother Earth, and mankind. It will be with this knowledge that we shall find our "Key to our Survival".

This is the story of the "Warriors of the Rainbow" and this is my reason for protecting the culture, heritage, and knowledge of my ancestors. I know that the day "Eyes of Fire" spoke of - will come! I want my children and grandchildren to be prepared to accept this task.The task of being one of the........"Warriors of the Rainbow".

2012---What Do You Think It Means

Its obvious that 2012 is near and alot of us folks think its going to be for change,perhaps so,maybe the way we don't want to see it.So I heard it all and then there is more yet to come.So heres my list for argument sake because like the Rainbow Family,it means different things to different folks.
1---there is a rare blue coment coming our way as the Hopi's predicted,arrival time Dec. 2012
2---there is also a hidden star that will be coming around the sun with a gravitational force pushing and pulling known stars and perhaps a planet or two.This would be known as wormwood,a star that only passes every 2500 years+/-.It may hit us due to our greed and making the planet tilt its axis a few degrees out of orbit
3---how about the end of all the Mayans that were perpotably brought here from another terestrial zone and knew of the future and there end.It has been argued that some culture knew and decided to genicide them all....but there were few Shamans living then and still are helping our life from beyond.....don't forget that Idiana Jones is due with his next flick about the cyrstal scull
4---should I even mention aliens,undocumented facts(go figure) show that already there are over 100 species that have traveled here and stayed to help us,but there are of course over 1000 others that have been here and probably just thought we were grazing food for another time.
5---talking about aliens there are starseed people living amongst us who were genetically altered to collectively come together when the time calls,you could be one of those seeds and not know it,but I take you where if you need to find out for youself.
6---though there is know scientific data to show how deep a black hole is-even light cannot escape it grab,the talk now is since we are ought of orbit a stargate may open and perhaps this is the bottom and the aliens will surely be closer to help us vs a lifetime in space traveling
7----well the list goes on,but I believe that whether you have a religeon,a belief,or your own self produced package your concious will make you what you want to become----becareful what you wish for,not everything is material worth having.

Police Break 60 Year Old Homeless Woman's Arm

Donna Deiss called in last night to report that yesterday around 5 PM, Officer La Moss (Badge #114) assaulted her, broke her arm, and then put her in handcuffs when he attempted to question her at Three Tree Lot near Lighthouse Field. Deiss was taken to the Watsonville hospital, had to wait hours for x-rays, whichconfirmed her arm was broken.
Deiss reported the following to me in a phone message last night and an e-mail this morning:

She was talking with friends yesterday on Westcliffe Drive near her RV. An undercover police officer, whom she later identified as Officer LaMoss, arrived in a black unmarked car and said he wanted to talk to her and others in the group. She read La Moss a statement from the ACLU about the rights of community members vis a vis the police and walked to her RV.

The cop followed her. She got in and tried to close the door. Le Moss, not saying she was under arrest or detained, reached in and grabbed her right arm, pinching the skin as he twisted it behind her back, breaking it. She screamed her arm was broken, but his response was to call for backup. 4 more police cars arrived. She continued screaming for 911 and finally paramedics showed up.

The police said they were impounding her RV, which she lives in.

She was taken to Watsonville hospital, waited hours for x-rays and painpills. She is charged with battery and an additional charge. X-rays confirm her arm was broken. She needs an attorney and community support.

This is an account from Donna Deiss (with someadditions from her friend Shane). Donna has previously been harassed by rangers as part of the 'clear out the hippies' campaign at Three Tree Lot and the other lots around Lighthouse Fields. Recently the City's Parks and Recreation Department had its 'No RVs' signs painted over by state Rangers, for apparently violating state law and policy regarding parking (i.e. RVS are allowed to park).

Why only one large gathering and not 4 or 5?

Here's my take on the situation.

It takes a huge amount of energy and committment to find a gathering site, deal with the USFS bullshit, focalize CALM, set up radios and water systems. Not to mention dealing with the Front Gate nightmares we've had the last couple of years. Frankly, these last few years, there aren't really enough people to do it for one gathering let alone 4 or 5 and the few people that are doing mission critical work are exhausted.

I don't really have much of an opinion on multiple gatherings versus one large gathering, but I do have a lot of opinions on how much work it takes to focalize a gathering, even a small one.

For example, the last get together we did near San Diego had about 5 people willing to do anything to make it happen and a few others willing to share information. While that was fine for a 4 day 100 person get together, that's not enough to do a 5,000 person regional - but that's all the people who were willing to put energy in.

The original generation is dying off, the next generation is in their 50s and 60s and we need the young family to get involved and be willing to committ the energy for the many months it takes to make a gathering happening.

Just to give you a clue how much energy it takes, I'm putting in 4 to 8 hours a week, just trying to focalize help for the Front Gate, Welcome Home and some cool workshops for Wyoming and I am only one of a dozen people I know focalizing heavily, plus the people working on logistics. CALM is broke and needs money for medical supplies, the people who have been focalizing drinking water are burned out and half the equipment ripped off. The few people willing to commit to scouting for 6 weeks have next to no funds available.

As to the cost of gas, from San Diego to Wyoming is about $100 each way in my Geo Metro. It's about $375 each way in my
step van that can transport 3 or 4 people - so that's $100 per person each way. Not that bad if you ask me. Greyhound is $178 round trip San Diego to Wyoming with a 14 day advance purchase and no further discounts.

On This Anniversary of the Kent State Massacre

Thirty eight years ago, on May 4, 2008, at Ohio’s Kent State University, the National Guard opened fire on students protesting the US war in Vietnam. The students were shot from distances of 275 to 400 feet, giving lie to claims that the students posed a threat to the Guardsmen. Four students were murdered and nine were injured. Nobody ever did time for those murders.

Before May 4, 1970, an anti-war movement had been building in the United States. The American people were increasingly impatient with the war, and an active anti-war movement helped build that kind of consciousness. People wanted an end to the war and Nixon kept promising a “light at the end of the tunnel.” On April 30, 1970, Nixon announced the invasion of Cambodia. This was the opposite of what people wanted to hear. Protests erupted on campuses that had not had them in the past, like Kent State. For many, the cold blooded murder of students at Kent State and murders of students soon after at Jackson State, were the final straw.

Immediately after the Kent State shootings 8 million students went out on strike, and some Universities, such as Berkley, were taken over by students and faculty as anti-war universities. After May 1970, the majority of those drafted were already opposed to the war before they got to Vietnam. This brought an end to the war. The US government could not win the war because they were facing fierce battles from the Vietnamese and many US soldiers were actively resisting the war. Commanding officers were winding up dead as they tried to force soldiers to kill people in a foreign land for a war they did not believe in. Nixon could not win a war with drafted soldiers who refused to fight, and this was a factor that forced the U.S. government to withdraw from Vietnam.

Three million Vietnamese were murdered as a result of the US occupation of southern Vietnam and massive U.S. bombing of the north. Over 50,000 US soldiers died. It was resistance, both by the Vietnamese people, and the resistance of the anti-war movement in the United States that brought an end to the US occupation of Vietnam. Had the working class of the United States been ready to join that strike of 8 million students in May 1970, we would have potentially had a revolution in the United States, but at that time the working class was not ready.

Today, after the lessons of Vietnam, and after decades of bi-partisan union busting, outsourcing, privatization, and declining living standards for the US working class, the U.S. working class is now stepping out and taking the lead in the struggle against the criminal occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan. On May 1st, 2008 10,000 U.S. port workers of the ILWU went out on strike against the U.S. occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan, shutting down all 29 ports on the West Coast for eight hours. Within the union, Vietnam Vets were some of the strongest advocates of the strike.

Joining the strike in solidarity with the demand of immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq were the Iraqi port workers at Umm Qasr and Khor Alzubair. They joined U.S. workers in a deeply symbolic one hour strike to end the occupation.

In going out on strike, the union ranks of the ILWU defied the rulings of an arbitrator, who twice ordered them not to strike. They also defied the employers of the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) who declared the strike “illegal”. This is the kind of defiance the working class will need to emulate in other industries, both to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and to start winning better contracts.

Today, over a million Iraqis have died as a result of the U.S. invasion. In addition, the U.S. has installed a religious death squad government where women's rights have eroded, the economy has deteriorated, the environment has been seriously devastated by the radiation of US DU weapons, millions of refugees have fled the country, people are often arrested without cause and tortured, the US bombs civilians from the sky, and basic infrastructure like water and electricity have been destroyed by the US and not rebuilt by the US occupiers.

It is also a war that has cost the U.S. thousands of lives, tens of thousands of casualties, and trillions of dollars in debt. Yet, for a few extremely wealthy Americans it has meant massive profits for military contractors and other businesses with contracts in Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition, multinational companies like Exxon, BP and Shell are drooling as the U.S. government tries to force an oil law down the throats of the Iraqi people that would turn ownership of Iraqi oil over to these corporations.

Meanwhile, the pro-war Democrat Party voted for the war and keeps voting to fund it. Today, the Democrats are once again pushing for $178 billion in funding for the war. Neither Clinton nor Obama would promise to withdraw all troops from Iraq by 2013 ("The Democratic Presidential Debate on MSNBC", New York Times 9/26/07). In addition, the two of them have offered differing versions of expanding these wars into Iran and Pakistan.

Whoever wins the upcoming election, it will take increased action by the working class to end these wars. ILWU member Jack Heyman is correct in saying of the May 1st strike against the war, “There's precedent for this action. In the '50s, French dockworkers refused to load war materiel on ships headed for Indochina, and helped to bring that colonial war to an end.” The longshore workers’ May 1st strike does indeed show the way forward. More strikes, and bigger strikes, along with building a workers’ party independent of the Democrats and Republicans, can indeed end these wars.

Longshoremen to close ports on West Coast to protest war

While millions of people worldwide have marched against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and last week's New York Times/CBS News poll indicated that 81 percent believe the country is headed in the wrong direction - key concerns being the war and the economy - the war machine inexorably grinds on.

Amid this political atmosphere, dockworkers of the International Longshoreand Warehouse Union have decided to stop work for eight hours in all U.S. West Coast ports on May 1, International Workers' Day, to call for an end to the war.

This decision came after an impassioned debate where the union's Vietnam veterans turned the tide of opinion in favor of the anti-war resolution. The motion called it an imperial action for oil in which the lives of working-class youth and Iraqi civilians were being wasted and declared May Day a "no peace, no work" holiday. Angered after supporting Democrats who received a mandate to end the war but who now continue to fund it, longshoremen decided to exercise their political power on the docks.

Last month, in response to the union's declaration, the Pacific Maritime Association, the West Coast employer association of shipowners, stevedore companies and terminal operators, declared its opposition to the union's protest. Thus, the stage is set for a conflict in the run up to the longshore contract negotiations.

The last set of contentious negotiations (in 2002) took place during the period between the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the invasion of Iraq. Representatives of the Bush administration threatened that if there were any of the usual job actions during contract bargaining, then troops would occupy the docks because such actions would jeopardize "national security." Yet, when the PMA employers locked out the longshoremen and shut down West Coast ports for 11 days, the "security" issue vanished. President Bush then invoked the Taft-Hartley Act, forcing longshoremen back to work under conditions favorable to the employers.

The San Francisco longshore union has a proud history of opposition to the war in Iraq, being the first union to call for an end to the war and immediate withdrawal of troops. Representatives of the union spoke at anti-war rallies in February 2003, including one in London attended by nearly 2 million people, the largest ever held in Britain. Executive Board member Clarence Thomas went to Iraq with a delegation to observe workers' rights during the occupation.

At the start of the war in Iraq, hundreds of protesters demonstrated on the Oakland docks, and longshoremen honored their picket lines. Without warning, police in riot gear opened fire with so-called less-than-lethal weapons, shooting protesters and longshoremen alike with wooden dowels, rubber bullets, pellet bags, concussion grenades and tear gas. A U.N. Human Rights Commission investigator characterized the Oakland police attack as "the most violent" against anti-war protesters in the United States.

And finally, last year, two black longshoremen going to work in the port of Sacramento were beaten, Maced and arrested by police under the rubric of Homeland Security regulations ordained by the "war on terror."

There's precedent for this action. In the '50s, French dockworkers refused to load war materiel on ships headed for Indochina, and helped to bring that colonial war to an end. At the ILWU's convention in San Francisco in 2003, A. Q. McElrath, an octogenarian University of Hawaii regent and former ILWU organizer from the pineapple canneries, challenged the delegates to act for social justice, invoking the union's slogan, "An injury to one is an injury to all." She concluded, "The cudgel is on the ground. Will you pick it up?"

It appears that longshore workers may be doing just that on May Day and calling on immigrant workers and others to join them.

The measure, H.R. 5843, known as an “Act to Remove Federal Penalties for Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults,” is the first federal decriminalization legislation introduced in 24 years. Frank’s pending bill, co-sponsored by presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), seeks to eliminate all federal penalties prohibiting the personal use and possession of up to 100 grams (3 1/2 ounces) of marijuana. Under this measure, adults who consume cannabis would no longer face arrest, prison, or even the threat of a civil fine. The bill also eliminates all penalties for the not-for-profit transfers of up to one ounce of pot. As a follow up to Rainbow Magic & Patch Adams video, a long, long, long time gatherer
(going back to the first Rainbow Gathering in 1972 and before) sent me this story
from days gone past.

I listened to Patch's rap in the council. It was all about hygiene and how simple things like handwashing and better dishwashing could help keep us healthier. He explained the fly-feces-food connection and how we had to break that string of connections in order to keep from getting the runs.

When he finished people cheered and clapped and he stepped outside the circle. I went up to him. "Patch, that was terrific. That was exactly the kind of thing this council needs to hear," I told him.

"No, you're wrong," He told me. "They didn't get it. They understood it. But I wasn't clear enough to get this circle to tell everyone else so the message really makes a difference."

"No, Patch, you did great," I said trying to be encouraging.

"Uh-uh." He shook his head smiling. "You come back tomorrow. I'm going make myself more clear."

The next day Patch returned to the council with a troupe of mimes. They were all dressed up in outlandish costumes. When Patch's turn in council came, first two people mimed using a latrine at the edge of the circle and there appeared two giant 'turds' - really people in gunny sack outfits - lying on the ground. Then two big ol' flies came a buzzin' round and round the circle. The crowd was in stitches. The flies landed on the poop. Munch, munch, munch!

Meanwhile the two people come returning from the dinner circle carrying a gigantic bowl. Oh, they're tired! Let's skip getting this dirty bowl washed...we'll just leave it outside the tent. So they lie down to sleep, zip the imaginary tent door and here come the flies! Buzzing onto the food crud dried on the edge of the bowl.

Patch is explaining how this why so many of us in camp have diarrhea. And how dishwashing can save the day. Everybody told everybody. In fact we're still telling everybody. Real teaching. Patch in his element, healing people by making them laugh.

Happy 420 and Earth day???

Felt like throwing up a nice story from today. In Berlin now, was headed to Dresden as of this morning. I get out to the autobahn to a place a friend reccomended. Unfortunately, I should not have listened to the friend. So after waiting for three hours, and on the advice of some locals passing by I headed south for more direct access to the autobahn leading to Dresden.
Fortunately, after spending a hour or two on the trams, the German authorities decided that today is the good day for closing the autobahn for protection of our sweet earth. And I was worried about not getting a ride until so late...authorities took that worry right off my hands.
Not complaining about Earth day, or the lack of cars....BUT WHY DIDN'T SOMEONE INFORM ME??????? It was such a beautiful day for hitching too. Now I'll just go laugh my nutty psychotic little laugh.

family in washington, oregon, and northern california

hey family. my names joshua. I'm new to the family. my first experience was the nationals in arkansas. I stumbled upon the gathering while hitch hiking towards my moms and it was one of the best experiences of my life(what a surprise to find thousands of hippies camping in the woods).

I stayed in bus city for a few weeks and met some amazing folks. I've never experienced truth in how to treat one another so potently in my life. it felt more like home than home. and so I will forever consider the rainbow family my family.

but anyway, I'm hitch hiking around right now, seeing where the breeze is blowing. I'm in denver, staying with a girlfriend of mine. and my feet have been itching so I'm headed to washington this next week. I'm really just perusing, but I know there's alot of good to experience in those parts. I've never been to washington. I'll be going with the flow, working my way to forest hill california down the coast.

I'm in no hurry whatsoever. really I just want to see what's there and have a good time.

but yeah, I'd love to get in touch with some family while I'm there. I'm headed to seattle first then south through oregon then down into sacramento to record some music with some friends in forest hill. here's what I've recorded with an acoustic guitar and my laptop.

To Mumia Abu-Jamal -- my brother in this Struggle; and your family, friends, and supporters.

I offer you my warmest greetings. How appropriate, after so many years, that I now send you word from a cage housed in the very same state as yours.

Perhaps it is destiny that we would find ourselves incarcerated so near, under similar circumstance, by similar forces, using similar excuses, for a similar love of our people.

Perhaps it is destiny that we arrived at a similar truth -- that we had to stand in opposition to a similar oppression.

Perhaps it was destiny that we were unable to stand idly by with similar brutality all around us, and similar violence thrust upon us, as the only means to survive.

Given the choice of lying down to die or standing up to live, we chose to live. Standing up and living is our only crime in this, the land of the free and home of the brave. Our dream is still alive, and as hunger striker Bobby Sands once said, you can lock up the dreamer but you cannot place chains around an idea.

While acknowledging another setback for Mumia in the lack of a new trial, I am hopeful for the new sentencing hearing on April 19. Like so many before us, our smaller victories will one day result in our ultimate triumph, and we will carry on the Struggle until that day.
For we are one, and we are many. We are forever, we are timeless. We are Crazy Horse, we are Geronimo, we are Mumia, we are Leonard Peltier, we are Malcolm X, and we are Martin Luther King. We are the voice of justice and natural living. We are the American Indian Movement, we are the Black Panthers, we are MOVE, we are the Viet Cong, we are the Irish Republican Army, and the Palestinian Liberation Organization.

We are every man, woman and child who desires to see a sunrise in a land of freedom and opportunity, a land of plenty and not hunger, a land of choices without fear, a land of progress without brutality. Raw Food Station in Wyoming

Hey Family,

Joji here from Los Angeles getting geared up for Wyoming. Doing the main circle kitchen again, but this time with a twist. My girlfriend Shauna and I are vegetarians and our kitchen is always a vegetarinan kitchen. We serve green salad at the main circle and I want to continue with this tradition. Instead of having the salad come out of my kitchen, I plan on setting a second kitchen next door but oriented totally towards raw food. We will bring all the necessary supplies; sharp knives, cutting boards, food grade buckets, and bug free area to prepare. If you are interested just look for the raw food station at the gathering. We hope to be first home, but Magic Bowl insists on being first, then we will be second home. Just putting it out there so the raw fooders know there is a home within a home. Lastly, I need raw food chefs to step it up.

Travel Necessities

my friend and i are going to pretty much drop out of the working world and bum around for a while starting this summer we both have a bit of traveling experience via bands in vans or greyhounds but we are probably going to be hitching and such. i was just wondering what fellow nomads would consider absolutely essential to life on the road as in gear, ex tent, how much water, food (aside from dumpstering), clothes, first aid, cell phones? any of that stuff? any advice would be greatly appreciated as we want to know what people find is most often needed so we dont over prepare.

This 1 hr docu. of Patch's 2002 trip (with full clowning entourage) to Kabul was just uploaded to YouTube in 6 parts about 3 weeks ago. It was uploaded to the Italian channel misterno1978. While I'm sure Patch has no problema with this, someone else might get uppity and have it pulled (as happened to Farmer John just a week ago). So watch it soon just incase:

Fines Increase on Colorado National Forests

DENVER, Colo., (Feb. 28, 2008) – The USDA Forest Service and other land management agencies released information regarding the increase in fines for the violation of National Forest Laws and Regulations. U.S. District Court Judge Edward Nottingham recently approved the Colorado Collateral Forfeiture Schedule, which increases fines for infractions for a variety of offenses. Previously, fines ranged from approximately $25 to $100 for infractions. Under the new Schedule, fines generally range from $100 to $500 for infractions.

“It has been more than 15 years since our fine schedule was last updated,” said Gil Quintana, Special Agent in Charge for Rocky Mountain Region Law Enforcement and Investigations. “The outdated fines did not serve as much of a deterrent for those few forest visitors who violated Forest Service laws and regulations.”

Federal agencies throughout Colorado worked together to develop a framework for the fine schedule to achieve consistency statewide. The updated schedule also makes Colorado consistent with Wyoming, South Dakota and Nebraska.

Some examples of the changes include:
· Possessing or operating a motor vehicle on National Forest System lands except on designated roads, trails or areas (36 CFR 261.13) is $250.
· Damaging and leaving in a damaged condition any road, trail or segment thereof (36 CFR 261.12(c)) changed from $75 to $300.
· Discharging or igniting a firecracker, rocket, or other firework or explosive (36 CFR 261.16(d)) changed from $75 to $200.
· Building, maintaining or using a campfire during a fire ban (36 CFR 261.52 (a)) increased from $25 to $300.

Let's work on the spirit from now...I've heared some folks in Cali (San Diego) are having consistent regionals just to balance the good vibes out for summer. San Diego Weekly Council Update

So Sunday (April 6) was the first day we held the Back to Basics Circle.

We were small in number, but in true Rainbow Magic the San Diego
version of Glowing Feather or Diamond Dave showed up and joined us.
Now mind you, this man had never heard of Rainbow before (or open mikes
for that matter), but he held hands with us as we circled,
then let loose with some beautiful love and spirit filled poetry raps
that would challenge the best the gathering has to offer
and he was a 40 to 50 year old self professed virgin.

He sat with us in circle and shared thoughts and ideas in
poetic rap format. Amazing. And very mystical. He apparently
lives near the park and there's been a Rainbow Circle in
that approximate location for over ten years and yet
the first time he connected with us was to join the
Back to Basics Circle.

My hope for Sunday's circle was to talk about the importance
of non-tangible connections and energies in creating
a safe, fun and meaningful gathering for everyone. To that
end, I told a story from the last Wyoming gathering in 1994.
A beautiful sister suggested that lots of people are more
plugged into the Internet than the park and that I should
make this story available electronically, so here goes.

The 1994 Wyoming gathering was in a beautiful bowl shaped
meadow with a creek running through it. Unfortunately, there
was no rain. And things got dry. Very dry. And the fire danger
rose. Family counciled on how to handle the situation. We
talked a lot about root fires and evacuation routes and how
to fight a fire. Not that fighting is very Rainbow, but
sometimes... Fire patrol was in full force and 5 gallon
buckets of water and shovels were the most commonly spoke
about tools.

The general plan was that should a fire break out, those
prepared to fight were going to put on boots, long pants
and long protective shirts and head towards the fire with all
the buckets, shoves and axes they could carry. Everyone
else would evacuate into the meadow and follow the creek
down hill and out of the area.

A few small fires erupted here and there but were always
adjacent to a camp and were put out as fast as they started.

So one day I'm sitting in a Southern California family council
and the call of fire rings out. We stop what we're doing and
my friend and I run back to our tents. Put on our boots
and jeans. We grab shovels and all the buckets we can find.

Then we head up the hill, which seems to be the way everyone
was going. Things were a bit chaotic at first as first people
were running up the hill along the trail, then turning back,
then running up, then turning back. I later found out
that there were some people who felt it was too dangerous
for gatherers to fight a forest fire, but in the end that
big loving beautiful rainbow can do attitude won out
and we all charged up the hill.

This was not a little fire. This was a fire in dry trees.
A real forest fire and I had never been near one before,
let alone helped to put one out.

As we ran up the trail, there was a small tree and four or
five old men with long grey hair and long grey beards dressed
all in flowing white clothes holding their hands up to the sky.
"Om for the wind to stop," they called out. "Om for the wind to stop."

My friend and I stopped, looked at each other and scoffed. We
had a forest fire to fight, we didn't have time to Om. So we
continued up the hill and joined the bucket brigade. Hundreds
of people passing five gallon buckets of water from the creek
below up to the fire above. Some of them naked or next to naked.
Others covered up a bit more. Sparks flying. Ash everywhere.

At some point after things were settling down a bit and
the fire seemed to be somewhat contained, the Forest Service
brought in a plane to drop fire retardant on the area that had
burned. I was able to get some great photos of the drop.

After that we just kept slinging the buckets full of water. Family
came by with food and passed zu zus and water up and down
the line. A beautiful magical crew came by and gave five minute
shoulder and neck massages - thank you beautiful family, it was wonderful.

And then it was over and we were drop dead exhausted and collapsed
into bed. I didn't hear that night or the next, but at some
point I heard that all the people in the know: family with experience
in forest fires, the Forest Service resource people, and others
that the only reason we, meaning family on the ground working our butts off,
were able to contain the fire was because the wind, unexpectedly and
unusually, died down.

Just some food for thought.

So join us every Sunday in April and May, 1 PM in Balboa Park
at the usual place except for April 20th - the day of the huge
Earth Fair and the huge drum circle by the Museum of Art.

Anyone know of anything around here? i am pregnant, cant travel too far, but am in major need of some recharging of my spiritaul batteries, and need to give some! i dont really care for the city gatherings, my first gathering ever was Oracle in deming, WA, changed my life forever. but this year, oracle was in Seattle, and i cant dig on the city vibe like that, getting and giving what is needed on this level. yes, most times, i can get and give well in cities, there are a lot of needy people, and people who dont know the true value of what they have to give. BUT in this instance, my soul needs a deep drink. My partner and i have been spending loads of time down at the sound, agate hunting, and up in the woods, walking and whatnot, but i just need family, PEOPLE, you all understand, i am sure. my life has changed so dramatically over these past two years, i lost my "family" or people i treated as my family, when things got bad, they fled, and i got left holding the stick. even after being so hurt (this was basically a approx 10 person community in an apartment, with my xhusband and i, he left me, they all did too.) i still crave being part of a family, loving and trusting again. anyhow, enough storytime!!! so, anyone know?

To all those that have enjoyed the rainbow music featured on http://rainbowtribe.net
over the last few years, then some more treats are on the way.
First off, Bill Wayne recorded music at several gatherings in the early and mid 90´s and he has recently mailed me the masters and I will be sorting them and hosting the music on my web site. I would like to decorate his page a bit and I checked my photos from the 90´s but they are not that impressive, so if any of you have some good pics then drop me a line at tenalilight@yahoo.com. Going through the music from those years is like finding a buried treasure, should be exciting.
Second, I will be going through my recordings from 2000-2007 and taking out the compost so to speak.
I will let yáll know when I have the recordings uploaded. Probably late spring/early summer.

Sucks in Salem, Looking to relocate to Eugene

I wanna leave this poopy town, and head to better places. Love Euge, always have. SO I decided that's where I wanna be. But I am not familiar with the lay out or what all is available as far as cheap living spaces, (like 400 or less a month, or partial pay/ partial trade), community garden activities, local craft market (aside form Saturday Market), and the food service job market...I had a pal down there, but she moved back east...It's me, a 10 yr old and a fat lazy cat. I am a cook by trade and GREAT at customer service, however, I am also a 'big gal' and have a chin moco (tattoo)...My town has no room for fat girls with tattoos, so it's time to go...Any advice, suggestions or neighborhoods to check out, I would much appreciate. I am kool with all sorts of atmospheres so long as they are safe and productive for me and the kid...also looking to visit your sweet town just about every weekend till I move, so as to get cozy with the town, would love to meet folks and get familiar with faces...Thanks family, -Arrow

best Rainbow story contest.

Hey Family,

I just moved and I am selling many books and CD's and I came up on two pieces or Rainbow material that should stay in the family. They are

1) Book: People of the Rainbow a Nomadic Utopia by Michael Niman
2) VHS Copy of "Rainbow Spirit" that has rainbow songs on it.
3) Original copy of "Drums from Mali" AKA "Tambours Du Mali" In honor of the West African Drum Tradition. The Djembe playing is off the hook on this one. by Mamadou Kante.

The book and CD (Import) was about $20 +/- and the Video Free (if you were able to get a copy) I will mail it out this friday the 28th to whoever has the best rainbow story on this here tribe. I will pay for the shipping. I guess here the the guidelines ( Not "rules" )

The story needs to be true.
The story needs to happen at, on on the way from, or on the way to a National Gathering. There must be a gathering tie in somehow.
The names need to be changed to protect the innocent and the guilty unless you have permission to tell it. No need to bad- mouth any other family to tell you story, be kind.
The story must have happened to you, a first hand account.
The time deadline cut off for stories will be This thursday 8pm pacific time, so I can contact the winner and have the goods put in the mailbox first thing friday or saturday morning. If you want to participate just throw down your best story.
